*p.s. These worksheets have yummy recipes to go along with each country!

My father was a traveler and spoke 7 languages fluently. I remember being fascinated by the maps, pictures, and relics he brought home with him. When I was a boy he and I traveled by bus from one end of Mexico to the other staying in the homes of random people and taking in all of what Mexico had to offer (large cockroaches, hot food and all!) . I guess some of that rubbed off on me. I speak Spanish and English fluently, and can get by in German, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. Today, when I visit another country my favorite place to be is in someone’s house taking in the feeling of their lives and culture, and eating their food!
This course allows one to learn about world history by discussing the history and culture of individual countries. The countries selected for this series are ones that I have traveled to or are the homeland of a person with whom I am acquainted with, or both.

Some of the topics that are discussed to help learn about culture are:
i. Art
ii. Music
iii. Dance
iv. Politics/government
v. Language
vi. Money
vii. Food
b. Each lesson involves a brief history of the country and a printout that invites the learner to consider lessons that can be learned from that country’s history. Most of the lessons involve a recipe to make a meal common to that area. (because food says a lot about a culture and is really fun to make!)
