We are used to crazy things happening during weigh-in days. Whether it’s boxing or mixed
martial arts, there’s usually some sort of madness about to go down. This is more for the sales of
pay-per-views and tickets than anything else, but we still enjoy them a lot. Here are the 10 most
shocking weigh-in moments in MMA history. Watch out for the first one as it will blow away
your mind
Number 10. Bouquet of flowers.
Inside the octagon, MMA fighter Sean “The Real OC” O’Connell has amassed many wins.
Outside of the ring, the 31-year-old from Salt Lake City has collected thousands of laughs thanks
to his pre-fight antics. O’Connell is the MMA’s funny man thanks to how he conducts himself
during the weigh-in, the last opportunity for fighters to see each other before fighting. During a
weigh-in night, O'Connell and Ilir Latifi engaged in perhaps the least intimidating staredown in
MMA history. O'Connell, who is an absolute master of the weigh-in gag, stepped up his comedy
game yet again by handing the powerful Swede a bouquet of flowers during the obligatory face-
off. That isn't the first time he did something like that. O’Connell has wrapped arms with
opponents to share a drink, played a friendly game of rock-paper-scissors, and taken a selfie.

However, if you thought this was a sign that the fight would also be a friendly affair you would
be completely wrong as Latifi floored his opponent with a tsunami of a haymaker just 30 seconds
into their bout at UFC Boston. That's absolutely no way to treat a man who gives you a bouquet
of flowers.
Number 9. Dance off
Sometimes, weigh-ins and press conferences for boxing or MMA matches dissolve into madness.
But in the case of Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson, a UFC weigh-in became the site of a
dance-off, and it was pretty great. former “Dancing with the Stars” runner-up Paige VanZant
combined her love of dance with her love of fighting when she and her opponent used their
faceoff before the fight. VanZant’s challenger, Michelle Waterson, looked a bit uncomfortable
with the dance-off at first, but after some encouragement from her opponent, she not only got
into it but appeared to win when she pulled out “the Sprinkler” as her finishing move. Such a
lighthearted faceoff wasn’t expected between the two, but it’s also not too surprising. VanZant,
after all, isn’t known as a trash-talker. But that didn’t mean the fight was peaceful and light.
They did try almost to kill each other in the ring.
Number 8. Mask man
UFC 126 came right smack in the middle of Anderson Silva’s incredible UFC title reign. In his
division was a fellow Brazilian and someone Silva was very much familiar with; Vitor Belfort.
The two had spent time in the gym together in previous years, but leading into the fight, Belfort
went out of his way to take a shot at the champ, which in hindsight wasn’t a very good idea.
Belfort stated that Silva was “fake” and that he “wears a mask” in front of the public in an effort
to hide his true self. It wasn’t a dig at Silva the fighter, but a dig at Silva the person, which did

not sit well with the middlewight champion. Safe to say Silva heard the message from Belfort,
and it turned out to make for one of the best weigh-in scenes in UFC history. When both fighters
got face to face on stage, silva pulled out a white mask, put it on over his face, and squared up,
forehead to forehead with Belfort. You could feel the tension between the two even through a
computer screen at home.

Number 7. Screaming women
Before her stunning fall from the top, Ronda Rousey was the most dominant female mixed
martial artist of all time. She was 9-0 going into her fight at UFC 190, stopping opponents and
breaking arms every time out. One of Rousey’s title defense was to be held in enemy territory.
She was asked to defend the belt against the native, Bethe Correia, in Brazil, to which she
obliged. When the two took the stage for the ceremonial weigh-in, everyone was tense. Rousey
hopped off of the scale and got right into the face of a visibly angry and screaming Bethe
Correia. The image of Correia yelling at Rousey is one that will be attached to the result forever.
It was a classic stare down as neither woman had any admiration for the other. Rousey took care
of business on fight night, doing her talking in the cage, and leaving Correia’s talking in the past.
