Reaction to Basic Education's decision to reopen schools



Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has confirmed a phased re-opening of schools nationwide with grades 7 and 12 resuming classes from the first of next month as the country battles coronavirus. Motshekga was addressing a media conference in Pretoria. There has been concern in some quarters that schools will not be ready. But the minister says plans are well under way – including the warehousing of PPEs, sanitisers and cleaning materials. Motshekga says all relevant staff is to receive training ahead of the reopening. She says teachers are to be back at schools on the 25th of this month.
