Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) started its operation in the year 1975 and became an independent entity in 1984. It is an umbrella organization, covering 20 public sector and regional rural banks. People interested in working as Officers and Clerks in these, have to sit for the Common Written Examination (CWE), organized by IBPS. It was started with a mission of enhancing human-resource development through personnel assessment. The Governing Board is responsible for the policies and affairs of the Institute. This Board consists of nominees from Reserve Bank of India, National Institute of Bank Management and representatives from Insurance sector and academics, among others.
