How to solve a simultaneous quadratic and linear equation

How to solve a simultaneous quadratic and linear equation

Visit for quick reminder High School GCSE mathematics videos.

This video is all about how to solve a simultaneous quadratic and linear equation and forms part of the playlists ‘answers to tough questions’ and GCSE Higher revision.

The question is aimed at A grade (level 7) or above:

xsquared + ysquared = 29
y – x = 3

It’s best solved by using algebra to substitute y = 3 + x in place of the y in x^2 + y^2 = 29. You’re going to get two solutions, as the line crosses the circle at two points.

I hope the video helps and please do leave a comment – thanks!
