Grandview Police Officers Teaching Math to GMS Students - 41 News Preview

Officers with the Grandview Police Department are coming to Grandview Middle School (12650 Manchester) February 5-7 to demonstrate how they use one of their most essential investigative and crime-fighting tools- math. Traffic officers will be in school to talk to seventh- and eighth grade students about how math is used in law enforcement every day.

Specifically, police will talk to the classes about mathematical formulas and how they are used,
especially in accident reconstruction. “Velocity, force, angles, all those mathematical properties and more come into play in an accident investigation,” said Officer Doug Thacker with the Grandview Police Department. “Officers use their math skills constantly.”

“We really appreciate the Grandview Police Department for doing this,” said Dr. Jennifer Price, GMS principal. “This is a great way for our students to understand how math plays an important role in one of many career fields.”
