In the process we know as biological nitrogen fixation, the bacteria in
the root nodule in association with the plant takes the gaseous nitrogen from the air and
reduce it into a form that the plant can utilize for growth. This process of reducing
atmospheric diatomic nitrogen gas into ammonia is biological nitrogen fixation.
