In the royal families of Europe sibling marriages were considered abhorrent however unions between cousins were incredibly common. The houses of Habsburg, Hohenzollern, Savoy, Hanover and Bourbon often intermarried. The health of offspring was thrown out the window in favor of cementing treaties and making advantageous political matches. And there just weren’t that many royals on the marriage market to choose from. Here are the stories of some of the most shocking incestuous relationships and tragically inbred individuals in royal history.
