Just use finger for something like that

If you are unable to count numbers, this will not help.

Looks so complicated and unnecessary vs counting with your fingers

I am 44 years old, so i have no idea of common core. But when the 8 plus 5 appeared in the video, my brain just did automatically 8+2+3=13. That is the way my brain works since childhood, but the way I learned it was playing at very young age with plastic mathematic toys of different sizes: "1 unit size" as a plastic little cube, "10 unit size" as a plastic stick with the longitude of 10 "1 unit size" cubes, etc.

I was helping this little girl and she kept coming up with wrong answers using common core and I asked her to explain how she got that number and she said she didn't know that's just what they told her to so.. so isn't this just the same as memorizing simple match? I simplified it and got the right answer which made her answer 16+ off and she looked at me like I was wrong? ..not really sure I even drew out my technique how I solved it … hahaha idk shits weird

It is a good thing my kids are homeschooled. I still cannot do this the way they want. What decided the 8 should be a 10?

You did it wrong you break the eight down into a three and a five at five plus five then the three

I’m old and I’ve been unknowingly using common core math in my head for a long time lol

It’s weird thinking back to my schooling days. I didn’t realize I used common core concepts in my head without it being necessarily taught to me that way. I learned to conceptualize it on my own for the most part. Sometimes I would skip using the “method or algorithm” because I could pair and organize things much quicker in my head. And it frustrated me because my teacher then would ask me to go back and “show my work” and I’d have to go back and play along and write it out. Lol. I admittedly joined along with questioning the… Read more »

Why are they trying to change math?

Why would you take the time to do 10+3 in your head, but not 8+5? Why not do the entire process all over again with 10+3?

Learning math, an excellent teacher can make a difference between a class full of failures and a class full of successes.

The end result is children bring home homework and think their parents are idiots because they're no help. Now THAT is social engineering.

That’s kind of do it in my head sometimes. But drawing it out makes it more complicated

The better way is to recognize that 8 = 3 + 5, to add the fives to get 10 and then add the 3 to get 13, but that would be marked wrong. Common Core is about mindless conformity to applying complex rules; very similar to the thing it is supposed to avoid.

last time I took a basic math class we studied ONLY problems using numbers- but when it was test day all of the problems were word problems, and we never went over word problems. the school was making it harder to understand the material for no apparent reason.

This is bollox. Plain and simple. Designed to create stress and confusion so that the pupil must seek help from the teacher all the time, so creating artificial dependence on authority. The reason is simple. To make a society that has no independent thinkers.this makes implementing a communist dystopia far easier.

This shit gets me so tight and this is really common in new york I honestly hate it there jus making it harder than it needs to be, can we jus do our work in piece instead of “ShOwIng yOuR wOrK” it’s honestly so frustrating i wish hell to the person that made math like this, and i hate teachers that teach common core math instead of normal easy math. Not everything has to be the hard way because first of all math isn’t even a use in your adult life.

Breaking it down like that is no more "abstract" than trying to add 5 plus 8. The common core method is just breaking it down to smaller, more workable numbers.

I kinda figured that out when I was 14 from the “multiplication breakdown method”

I felt my brain deteriorating while watching this video, and I had to quickly do a couple of math problems the old-fashioned way to save what brain cells I could.

When I was in grade school, the last page of the workbook was the addition table of the sum of every pair of single digit integers: 0-9 by 0-9. It must be memorized unless you want to count on your fingers for the rest of your life! That would classify you as stupid. You MUST memorize the "Addition Table" because you cannot add any two multi-digit integers WITHOUT adding single digit integers. Common COre math is making kids stupid. I assume that is The Plan. Or are school teachers also stupid?

Common Core is total SHIT!!!!
If I had kids,, they would have the right answers on their on their papers, not a bunch of parallelograms!!!

This shows how missed up peoples minds are today! "I think its a great idea." This lady is crazy. But I think she is a promoter for common core, a psyop video.
